the size of the population 65 and older is experiencing one of the biggest increases in history. Between 2000 and 2011, the number of seniors grew 18%, ultimately totaling 41.4 million, according to the Administration on Aging. And the trend is expected to continue at least through 2030. At that point, report the Administration on Aging, seniors will make up approximately 20% of the U.S. population and total 70 million. Since age is a risk factor for Alzheimer’s, the US could have a 70% increase in Alzheimer’s. At that point, an estimated 7.7 million people would be affected.

All of these statistics point to the fact that our healthcare system is in trouble. Aria Senior Living wants to play a part in transforming the care of seniors in NE Ohio. Each Aria Senior Living house offers both Assisted Living and Memory Care services. Unfortunately, there is a great deal of stigmas associated with Alzheimer’s disease. A report from Alzheimer’s Disease International stated that three-quarters of those with Dementia said others perceive them negatively. These stereotypes contribute to a lack of engagement and lead to isolation from family and friends.

Aria Senior Living works to combat the stigma of Alzheimer’s disease by engaging others in open and direct conversations, sharing accurate information that overcomes misconceptions and advocating for more support and research. We chose to not “overemphasize” the fact that we primarily serve those with memory impairments. Those we serve live in a house, not a unit or wing.
